Video: 18th Century Shipwreck Washes Ashore in Florida

A mother and son walking along a beach in Florida were stunned to see that a rather sizeable shipwreck has somehow washed ashore.

Initially thinking that it was merely a big piece of driftwood, Julie Turner could not believe her eyes when she got closer and realized that it was the 48-foot-long remains of a ship.

Maritime historians from the area marveled at the incredible vessel, calling it "the holy grail of shipwrecks" due to both its fairly-well-preserved condition as well as its remarkable age of origin, which could be as far back as the 1700's.

In a testament to our modern age, researchers were able to quickly examine the vessel and produced a copious amount of documentation of the ship's remains in the hopes of constructing a 3D recreation.

As for the original shipwreck, it currently still sits on Ponte Vedra Beach in Florida waiting for either, hopefully, the state to come and take it away for preservation or, should they fail to act fast enough, the ocean to reclaim it once and for all.
