Video: 5 Mysterious Maps, Texts, & Drawings

Some of the most puzzling pieces of history are tantalizing works from the distant past which seems to have no explanation.

YouTube user Top5s has compiled a fascinating collection of these unique texts, drawings, and mysterious maps which have long baffled historians and researchers.

Included in the feature is the infamous Codex Gigas, which is better known by its ominous nickname 'The Devil's Bible.'

The enormous book boasts a fantastic legend about its backstory involving a disgraced monk who sold his soul to the devil in order to write the lengthy text in one night way back in 1229.

While historians doubt the veracity of its origin story, there can be no denying that there is an odd demonic element to the book in the form of a menacing depiction of the devil on one of its pages.

In the ensuing centuries since the book was written, it has become a prized possession of various nations until it ultimately wound up in a Czech museum under tight security.

Other works detailed in the awesome showcase are the legendary Piri Reis map as well as the enigmatic Nazca Lines.

Although we may never know the authors of some of these pieces or how others were created, kudos to those who did make them, since we're still talking about them all these years later.
