Video: 5 Places Where Visitors Are Forbidden

April 25, 2016

Although adventurous travelers can journey to almost any exotic location, there are some secretive sites around the world which have been deemed off limits to visitors.

YouTube user Top5s has compiled a video feature on five of the world's most mysterious and forbidden locations that you may want to scratch off your summer vacation list.

Many of these sites have managed to remain out of the public eye by virtue of their clandestine nature, while others have become infamous due to the very secrecy upon which they insist.

In addition to notorious sites such as Area 6 and Bohemian Grove, there is one particular location that stands out simply due to its sheer strangeness.

A tiny island in the Bay of Bengal is the home of an indigenous tribe that refuses any contact with people who are not from their world.

Known as the Sentinelese people, it is believed that they have inhabited North Sentinel Island for millennia.

Nonetheless, numerous attempts by explorers and researchers to make contact with the tribe have been rebuffed often using deadly force.

As such, the Indian government, which ostensibly controls the area, has essentially abandoned it to the Sentinelese people and banned boats from entering within three miles of the island.

Other intriguing sites on the list include underground installations both apocryphal (Dulce, New Mexico) and real but virtually impenetrable (Russia's Zhitkur base which has been dubbed their 'Area 51').

Check out the complete video to catch a glimpse of some sites that you are almost certainly never going to visit.
