Video: 'Alien' Jellyfish Spotted in Mariana Trench

April 29, 2016

A NOAA expedition investigating the mysterious Mariana Trench managed to capture video of a breathtaking new jellyfish species.

Sporting both short and long tentacles as well as glowing body parts, the magnificent creature floats through the footage seemingly in search of prey.

What makes it even more remarkable is that it resides nearly two miles beneath the surface of the ocean amidst harsh conditions that one might not expect to be home to such a beautiful creature.

In fact, were the video not produced by such an esteemed scientific organization, skeptical viewers would likely cry foul at the footage, since it almost appears to be a CGI creation rather than from an undersea camera.

Considering that we're often forced to marvel at sea creatures after they've washed ashore or been caught by puzzled fishermen, it's refreshing to see one in its natural habitat for a change.
