Video: Easter Island Statues Are At Risk

The iconic and mysterious "Moai" statues of Easter Island, famed in legend and tiki bar lore, are now threatened by rising sea levels.

Some of the monuments are located closer to the slowly advancing shoreline and could eventually be damaged or washed away by the pounding surf of the South Pacific. The action of the waves would also expose the rarely seen bodies of the figures.

A donation for a proposed sea wall has been provided by Japan to prevent this tragedy from happening, and the idea is now undergoing testing.
