A group of audacious and possibly foolhardy urban explorers have captured haunting images from the abandoned cities near Japan's infamous Fukushima nuclear power plant.
Keow Wee Loong and a pair of friends made the ill-advised trek to four cities which were once brimming with human activity but have now been rendered 'ghost towns' due to the 2011 radioactive disaster.
Evacuated in the immediate aftermath of the devastating earthquake and tsunami that wreaked havoc on the region, the cities provide a chilling glimpse of the lives that were interrupted by those fateful events.
Loong and his cohorts found a bevy of veritable treasures in the form of money, gold and jewelry that had been left behind by fleeing residents of the area.
They also spotted some eerily poetic scenes like a load of laundry that had been forsaken in the midst of what was presumably a chaotic escape.
In order to venture into these 'exclusion zones,' Loong and company had to stealthily maneuver around police patrols of the area during the middle of the night.
But perhaps the most unnerving aspect of their adventure was that the group opted to only wear gasmasks during their exploration and donned no other protective clothing.
Considering the dangerous levels of radiation believed to still permeate the area, this may turn out to be a trip that the explorers regret in the future.
