View 16 Years of Hubble Images in One Picture

Using nearly 7,500 individual exposures taken over 16 years from NASA's Hubble Space Telescope, astronomers have pieced together a stunning single image of our evolving universe. This "history book" mosaic displays a unbelievable 265,000 galaxies stretching back in time 13.3 billion years (500 million years after the big bang). "This one image contains the full history of the growth of galaxies in the universe, from their time as 'infants' to when they grew into fully fledged 'adults,'" said Garth Illingworth, leader of the team that assembled the image.
