Watch: Domino's Developing 'Delivery Reindeer' in Japan

Taking a page from Santa Claus himself, Domino's Pizza in Japan is attempting to develop a delivery system using reindeer!

The company says that the unorthodox idea is aimed at finding a way to deliver pizzas to areas of northern Japan that endure particularly brutal winter weather.

In a video released earlier this week, they showcased their progress on the project which appears to be off to an inauspicious start.

Although the company has been able to create a harness to hold the pizzas atop the animals as well as a GPS tracking system so they do not go astray, there are still much bigger challenges facing the plan.

Specifically, sending a reindeer out into the wild by itself with an unwieldy, pizza-stuffed backpack has proven to be more chaotic than efficient.

And the issue of how the company plans to teach reindeer to know that they are supposed to deliver to a certain location remains unanswered at this time.

One might suspect that the entire tale is merely a publicity stunt from the company, especially in light of the holiday season, however they appear to be taking it pretty seriously in their corporate video.

Should the audacious experiment prove to be successful, it raises an obvious question for Japanese residents who are greeted at the door by a reindeer delivery: what do you tip them?
