Hulking humanoid robot Atlas, founded by search titan Google and built by Boston Dynamics, is seen meandering through the forest in this video.
Boston Dynamics founder Marc Raibert dropped the latest footage of the "merry mechanoid" at the 11th Fab Lab Conference and Symposium in Cambridge, MA. At 6 foot two and weighing a hefty 300 pounds Atlas more than lives up to his name. After flopping – literally – by falling at a recent "Robo Olympics," Raibert and his team wanted to show the "new and improved" mechanized marvel climbing green terrain and running across rocks in a laboratory environment. "Atlas has been studying the way humans and animals move in a bid to replicate, and even improve on it," Raibert said. "Our focus is on balance and dynamics, working in the way animals and people do, moving quickly to avoid falling."
