A revered Buddhist monk received an incredible posthumous honor when his mummified body was covered in gold leaf so that his gilded remains could become a shrine.
Fu Hou had been a practicing Buddhist for an astounding 81 years when he passed away in 2012 at the age of 94.
Opting to be preserved after death, Fu Hou's body was mummified and placed inside of a massive jar for three years.
Upon opening the jar, his remains were found to be remarkably intact and Fu Hou had kept the same position throughout his stay in the container, which is considered a considerably strong sign of his virtuous nature.
As such, the body of Fu Hou was subsequently covered in gold leaf, dressed in resplendent robes, and will ultimately be placed inside of a glass case at the top of a mountain to serve as inspiration for his fellow Buddhists.
Without a doubt, the breathtaking display conveys a powerful message about the transformative power of a lifetime of humble servitude.
