Watch: Rare Ice Disk Filmed in Russia

A remarkable video of a river in southwestern Siberia captures an incredibly rare natural phenomenon known as an ice disk.

These breathtaking circles are formed in the bend of rivers when the water does not entirely freeze and currents cause ice to break off and slowly spin.

The rotating nature of the ice causes it to ultimately create the disk shape seen in the video.

Requiring just the right combination of temperature and river shape, ice disks are rarely seen outside of the artic regions of the world.

And while the phenomenon certainly looks paranormal, its natural origins serve as a reminder that the planet needs no supernatural help to produce a wealth of strange and usual sights.
