A weird alien-looking denizen of the deep has been caught on tape. What the heck is it?!
The deep-sea giant jellyfish, known as Stygiomedusa gigantean, was captured by a remote controlled camera in the Gulf of Mexico and posted on YouTube by Phillip Trudeau. The creature is so rare it is only been seen by scientists only 100 times since its first known discovery in 1990. The aquatic terror’s potentially deadly four stinging tentacles can extend nearly 20 feet. The sea-going menace can be found in every ocean on Earth – except the frigid waters of the Arctic.
