While it's not that unusual in Australia to find large, creepy crawlers hiding in strange places, one woman encountered something truly terrifying in her bed. On Monday night, Brisbane resident Rachel Bloor felt a heavy weight pressing against her body. Still half-asleep, she reached out to pet what she assumed was one of her dogs, only to feel the smooth, scaly skin of an 8-foot carpet python.
Her husband confirmed the presence of the massive constrictor after turning on the bedside lamp. Bloor's primary concern was for her Dalmatian, as she feared a violent encounter between her protective pet and the reptile. She carefully maneuvered out from under the blankets once her spouse safely removed their two dogs from the room.
Although many would find this experience traumatizing, Bloor remained unfazed. She guided the snake back through the window shutters where its tail was still hanging out into the backyard. The couple, their pets, and the python emerged from the encounter unscathed. Bloor stated that she would have been far more terrified had the intruder been a cane toad, a common Australian pest she finds repulsive.
