Dreams & Their Meanings

Date

Hosted byIan Punnett

Ian spoke with professor and dream therapist Rodger Kamenetz about his book, The History of Last Night's Dream, in which he explores the interpretation of dreams from a spiritual perspective. Kamenetz believes "every dream has huge potential to help us unlock deeper levels of feeling."

Kamenetz described two schools of dream interpretation gathered from his study of the Old Testament: one represented by Jacob, who dreamed of angels ascending and descending on a ladder to heaven (see Genesis 28:10-17), and another illustrated by Joseph, the biblical figure with a gift for dream interpretation (see Genesis 40). He also discussed the role of dreams and dream interpretation in the Bible.

Kamenetz analyzed one of Ian's dreams in which he cheated on his wife with a prostitute in order to save his sons from sleeping with her, as well as shared his own dream involving a police officer who stopped him while he was riding a bicycle. Kamenetz said the dream meant he had a problem relating to men, specifically a lack of connection to his father. He also talked about his studies with an 87-year-old female kabbalist in Jerusalem and, in the final hour and a half, spoke with callers about their dreams.
