Inducing Out-of-Body Experiences / Open Lines

Hosted byGeorge Noory

George Noory welcomed researcher Graham Nicholls of The Rhine Research Center for a discussion on his unique approach to inducing out-of-body experiences (OBEs). Nicholls said he began exploring OBEs after spontaneously having one in 1987. He recalled spending months experimenting with techniques until he consciously induced another OBE, which has since sparked a lifelong passion. He emphasized that OBEs can be life-transforming—even a single event can open up profound curiosity and personal growth. Nicholls described OBEs with a scientific lens, noting they are a shift in conscious awareness, rather than necessarily involving an astral body.

Nicholls explained that inducing OBEs reliably is not about sheer willpower but about creating the right conditions—such as entering a deep trance or light meditative state. He has developed methods like the G Technique, which combines breath control and muscle tension to help trigger OBEs. He drew distinctions between OBEs and near-death experiences (NDEs), noting that NDEs typically involve elements like tunnels of light and themes of crossing over. In contrast, OBEs tend to remain grounded in this or alternate realities. He recounted a powerful and verifiable precognitive OBE in 1999, during which he witnessed a bombing in Soho, London, five days before it occurred—an event witnessed and corroborated by others present at the time.

Nicholls suggested OBEs offer profound insights into questions about consciousness, life after death, and healing. He believes these experiences provide direct evidence for aspects of existence typically relegated to belief or speculation. He spoke about topics like the silver cord, which he has found to be rarely observed, and has had vivid journeys—including space travel and visits to symbolic places tied to deceased loved ones. Nicholls also described developing a sound-based induction method called Infraluminal Sound, which uses low-frequency audio and neurofeedback to reliably bring people to the vibrational state that often precedes an OBE—claiming a success rate of about 85%.

Open Lines followed in the latter half of the program. Mike from Green Bay, Wisconsin, shared a vivid account of his first and only out-of-body experience, which occurred during his first night at a new Marine base in Mississippi. In the experience, he felt an overwhelming force push him into his bed before being pulled into the universe, then inexplicably transported into a female Marine’s barracks room where he encountered a calming young woman who kissed him on the cheek before he returned to his body. The next morning, he saw that same woman in formation—someone he had never met before—and they later entered a short-term romantic relationship.

Suzanne in Minneapolis shared that she is a professional medium who became involved with 9/11 families after experiencing prophetic dreams and spiritual contact leading up to the attacks. Suzanne said she is featured in the bestselling book, Messages: Signs, Visits and Premonitions from Loved Ones Lost on 9/11 by Bonnie McEneaney, and also appeared on Oprah's OWN Network to discuss related experiences. Suzanne said her psychic work began after being contacted by the spirit of John Fetzer, the late founder of the Fetzer Institute and former part-owner of the Detroit Tigers, who guided her to connect with 9/11 families.

The final half hour was a replay from 11/19/24 featuring Michael Monk on astral projection.
