Cryonics

Date

Hosted byArt Bell

Brian Shock from the ALCOR Life Extension Foundation joined Art to talk about Cryonics–freezing people with the hope of someday bringing them back to life, and curing whatever caused their deaths. ALCOR clients are frozen in liquid nitrogen at minus 320 degrees Fahrenheit, and Shock estimates that the bodies are projected to last 10,000 years or longer. Patients have the choice to have their full body frozen, or just their head.

Art remarked that this is a form of time travel, and people would experience culture shock when they are "reanimated." The guest stated that it costs roughly $4000 a year to keep someone in this frozen condition, and that for a $120,000 investment, you could keep a full body suspended indefinitely.
