Global Warming & Planetary Health

Date

Hosted byArt Bell

Editor of E/The Environmental Magazine (back in 2004), Jim Motavalli, discussed the state of global warming and its impact on our future survival. He said that the recent rise in temperature “perfectly correlates” with the rise of technology and industry. He called the situation “beyond scientific debate.” Motavalli warned about the drastic drop in ocean plankton and how this is an indicator of the overall health of the biosphere. He also discussed the rise in infectious diseases caused by climate change, as well as the reasons the world should abandon oil-based economies.

Motavalli writes on environmental subjects for The New York Times, Salon, and many other publications. He also hosted a public affairs radio show and taught journalism in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

The first hour featured news and Open Lines.
