Douglas Mulhall is a biotech company co-founder, popular science author, and journalist. He reported on recent advances in nanotechnology, which is engineering on a molecular scale. He also described "utility fog," a substance that is transparent and can be passed through but will repel weather, producing truly invisible exterior walls. Nanotech could also create diamonds that are "indistinguishable from the real thing" and cost $5-10 per carat, he noted.

The move to these new technologies will change who we are as humans, he said, enhancing our intelligence and allowing us to use them wisely. Finally, he discussed the concept and inevitability of self-aware computers. The first hour featured news and Open Lines.
