Dan Sherman recounted his extraordinary claims of alien contact and government secrecy, asserting that he participated in a highly classified program that used "intuitive communicators" to establish psychic contact with extraterrestrials. Sherman said he enlisted in the Air Force in 1982 and later retrained in electronic intelligence. In 1992, he was informed that he had been selected for "Project Preserve Destiny," a purported "gray program," described as operating above the level of traditional black projects. According to Sherman, he was told his mother had been abducted by aliens in the early 1960s and that his DNA had been genetically altered before birth.
He underwent two months of training at an NSA facility, where he practiced mentally manipulating computer-generated sine waves while listening to audio tones, exercises he said developed his latent psychic abilities. Afterward, he was assigned to undisclosed bases and claimed to communicate with two extraterrestrial beings, nicknamed "Spock" and "Bones." Sherman said the aliens always initiated the contact, and he typed his intuitive impressions into a computer system for transmission to the NSA.
Over time, he claimed to receive detailed reports on alleged alien abductions, including locations, the likelihood that abductees would remember the experience, and their expected pain levels. Disturbed by the information, Sherman sought an early discharge, but said he was told he could not leave because of his unique abilities. He ultimately obtained an honorable discharge in 1995 through what he described as "drastic legal measures."
Sherman said the aliens conveyed that Earth was still in its "very early formative stages" and that they traveled by manipulating electromagnetic energy rather than conventional concepts of time and distance. While acknowledging he had no physical evidence to support his claims, he argued that "gray programs" leave no official paper trail, adding that if he were fabricating the story, he would have made it far more sensational.
