The Bell Witch Haunting

Hosted byArt Bell

On the night of Art's 57th birthday, writer Neil Sibley discussed the historic Bell Witch haunting and his own unsettling experiences while writing a screenplay about the case. The events began in 1818 on John Bell’s Tennessee farm with strange animal sightings and soon escalated to knocking sounds, violent shaking of the house, and physical attacks on the children, particularly Betsy Bell. An unseen entity developed a voice, often mocking and cursing the family, and told John Bell that it would not leave until it killed him. According to the legend, the entity poisoned and killed Bell in December 1821, then departed, promising to return seven years later. It briefly reappeared in 1828, allegedly speaking to John Bell Jr. and making predictions about events including the Civil War and the World Wars.

Sibley said a newly discovered manuscript, sealed since 1841 and written by Betsy Bell’s husband, revealed the alleged motive behind the haunting: John Bell had sexually molested Betsy. The entity reportedly said its purpose was "retribution."Originally a comedy writer, Sibley discovered that he had grown up near the Bell farm, prompting him to write the screenplay.

During his research, he experienced a series of disturbing incidents, including a mysterious phone call filled with static and a voice saying “Lucille.” An inner voice told him the word was actually "Lucifer." Sibley also described encountering a “bluish-white flickering light entity,” which he identified as a demon. He attempted an exorcism and said the entity eventually left after he “turned it over to the Lord.”

During the first hour, Dr. Steven Greer discussed what he described as ongoing government disinformation surrounding the UFO phenomenon, including a military response to the "UFO problem." He also discussed his white paper, "Cosmic Deception, Let the Citizen Beware," which outlines what he characterizes as a decades-long effort by a clandestine “rogue group” to manipulate public perceptions of UFOs.
