Steve Alten, a native of Philadelphia, holds a Bachelors degree in Physical Education from Penn State University, a Master in Sports Medicine from the University of Delaware, and a Doctorate degree in Sports Administration from Temple University. His first book, MEG; A Novel of Deep Terror was a N.Y.Times bestseller and was sold in more than a dozen countries.
As an author, Steve has two goals. First, to continue to work hard to become a better storyteller and create page turning thrillers. Second, to remain accessible to his readers. Steve reads and answers all e-mails, uses the names and descriptions of his loyal fans as characters in his books, and even hires readers as editors, depending on their particular expertise. To date, he has worked with a submarine expert, United States Army Ranger, Maximum Security Prison Guard, technician on the X-33 project, a Physics & Chemistry Professor, a former NASA rocket scientist, a nano-computer expert, a technician at the Kennedy Space Center, and one very crazy parachute enthusiast.

|
| Friday April 21, 2006 |
During Open Lines, George set up a 'lunacy line' for callers who wanted to comment on the craziness they see around the world. He also played a recording of a phone conversation between Dr. Morgus and Coast to Coast AM producer Tom Danheiser. In it, Tom asks Morgus to help him revive Bertha, George's beloved plant that Tom was charged to take care of while George was in St. Louis, but that he instead allowed to die of neglect. Luckily, Morgus was able to synthesize a pill from the remains of Bertha and regrow the plant for Tom. Before and after photos of Bertha can be view here.

A Morgus Surprise |
|
| Friday November 11, 2005 |
During Open Lines George offered a 'surprise' hotline and was himself surprised when New Orleans-based television personality Dr. Morgus instantly 'teleported' into the LA studio while they were chatting on the phone. The two fielded calls together, then later in the show Morgus asked George to help him with an experiment.Morgus explained he could use his superior powers of mind over matter to stop a punch in mid-motion, so George reluctantly agreed to take a swing at him. Unfortunately, like so many of Morgus' experiments, it failed and George accidentally struck him, loosening one of Morgus' four remaining teeth. Throughout the evening George played a musical tribute to veterans from all branches of the armed forces, and at the end of the program presented his rendition of H.G. Wells' The Story of the Inexperienced Ghost.

The Truth About Nessie |
|
| Wednesday May 4, 2005 |
Author Steve Alten shared his surprising research about the Loch Ness Monster, which indicates the creature is not similar to a plesiosaurus, but rather it's a huge predatory eel-like creature. He believes that it became trapped in the deep loch over 70 years ago, when the building of an adjacent roadway closed off a passage into larger waters. Since then, the creature, which is probably female, has grown larger and larger, reaching 50-60 ft. in length, he suggested. Alten said he engaged forensic artist/investigator Bill McDonald (Press Release/Video Footage) to conduct research at Loch Ness, and he concluded that the creature is a mutation of a species that currently lives in the Loch.Alten further described the creature as a vicious, slimy, 6,000 lb. amphibian, that slithers like a snake, has rows of teeth and is capable of coming on land to seek prey. In fact, a recent report (which includes a photo) claims the creature left a 4-inch tooth inside a deer it attacked. Alten c
