Art Bell Vault: The Science of Cloning

Our newest feature for Coast Insiders, The Art Bell Vault, features an expanding curated collection with two vintage shows added to the mix each Wednesday. This week's new programs explore cloning, beginning with a fascinating episode from 2/28/97 in which Art spoke with geneticist Dr. Kevin FitzGerald about the ethical issues surrounding the controversial scientific technique. The conversation occurred just days after the headline-making announcement that scientists in Scotland had successfully cloned a sheep. FitzGerald shared his thoughts on that enormous story and opined about where the proverbial 'line' is when it comes to ethical cloning procedures.

Next up, we travel back to 1/3/2002 for an enlightening edition of the program wherein Professor Ronald Munson told Art about the latest advances in cloning research, specifically an endeavor aimed at trying to clone the human embryo. He argued that researchers should be working on cloning projects which are therapeutic in nature, such as producing new body parts and organs for people who need them. He also detailed the similar benefits which could arise from stem cell research which was a particularly controversial realm of science at the time.

These classic programs have commercials and breaks removed and are presented in multiple-platforms-- available on-demand for Mac, Windows, IOS, and Android. Many of them feature rare "5th" hours of content from back in the 90s when the show had a longer running time. We do include Art's beloved bumper music, which became such an indelible part of his program.

And for the true Art Bell fan, we offer different listening options to fine-tune your experience, such as guest only, and full show streams. Coast Insiders, we're very happy to bring this new offering to you at no additional charge to your subscription! We welcome your feedback.
