'Asparamancer' Reveals 2023 Forecast

By Tim Binnall

A popular British psychic medium who claims that she can predict the future using asparagus has issued her forecast for 2023. Dubbed the Asparamancer, Jemima Packington is something of a celebrity in the UK thanks to her rather unique divination technique wherein she tosses the vegetables into the air and then studies the patterns that form upon hitting the ground. Over the years, she has been credited with predicting Brexit as well as Boris Johnson becoming prime minister of the UK and, in 2022, some argued that she foresaw the passing of Queen Elizabeth when the asparagus suggested that the Royal Family would experience "sadness" involving "scandals and worse." And now she has announced what the vegetables have told her about 2023.

Largely centered around events in England, Packington's forecast for the new year reportedly includes the announcement of "more Royal births," turmoil, a "joyous" coronation for King Charles, and food shortages that will cause rationing as well as an increase in home gardening. Beyond Britain, the Asparamancer also foresees "unexpected deaths amongst showbiz personalities," which she notes will be "not all age-related," turmoil in Asia due to Covid, and renewed "concerns over climate change." Although the forecast is fairly vague, Packington did specifically predict that England will win the Women's World Cup and that the "UK will not return to the EU."

Looking back at the Asparamancer's 2022 predictions, while many believe that she did foresee the death of Queen Elizabeth, her suggestion that Boris Johnson would serve as UK prime minister throughout the year was off the mark, as was her forecast of a World Cup win for Croatia. Similarly, her prognostication that Benedict Cumberbatch would receive an Oscar nomination proved to be correct, though her prediction that The Power Of The Dog would win for Best Picture turned out to be wrong. As always, time will tell how accurate Packington's asparagus turned out to be as the next twelve months unfold.
