British Motorist Arrested for Alleged Drunk Driving After Reporting Himself to Police

By Tim Binnall

Cops in England got something of a lucky break when an out-of-sorts motorist reported himself for drunk driving. The peculiar bust reportedly occurred on Monday afternoon when the North Yorkshire police department got a call from the unnamed resident of Rochdale. The man informed the surprised dispatcher that he was drunk driving "and doesn't know what he is doing." Providing police with his precise location, the motorist went on to explain "that he had a heavy weekend" which apparently contributed to his state of disrepair.

Despite the unfathomable nature of the call, police understandably took the report seriously and promptly dispatched officers to the scene. Upon arrival, they administered a breathalyzer test and found that the motorist was remarkably honest as he had actually been out driving at over three times the legal alcohol limit. As one might imagine, this led to his subsequent arrest. Looking back on the curious case, the department marveled "well it's not every day that a suspected drink driver dobs themselves in to the police."
