British Woman Enlists 'Grim Reaper' to Attend Her Funeral

By Tim Binnall

A British woman's funeral featured a rather unsettling 'special guest' in the form of a friend whom she enlisted to dress up as the Grim Reaper. The delightfully dark joke reportedly unfolded at the services for Sharon Taffs in the community of Maldon last month. The idea for the unlikely attendee, daughter Louise Miller explained, came about while her mother was meticulously planning her funeral and a friend suggested that he appear wearing the macabre costume to warn the mourners that they were next to be visited by the proverbial angel of death. Possessing something of a wicked sense of humor, Taffs found the idea to be fantastic and insisted that they go through with the gag.

"She made us promise we would do it," Miller said, "and he's the kind of friend that would fulfill that promise no matter what." Following Taffs' passing this past December, her funeral was held last month with, as seen below, the eerie interloper in attendance. Suspecting that some mourners might be put off by the presence of the Grim Reaper at the service, her family made sure to warn everyone ahead of time to prevent any unwanted scares. Ultimately, Miller mused that her mother "would be absolutely loving the attention her funeral is getting, as it just showcased her personality and sense of humor."
