Cambodian Psychic's Braggadocious Claims About Police Influence Land Her Behind Bars

By Tim Binnall

A popular online psychic in Cambodia found herself in trouble with the law after she bragged on social media about being able to influence the police. According to a local media report, the peculiar case began late last month when the mystic, who uses the moniker Mother Raksa, took to TikTok and made some rather ill-advised statements to her more than 160,000 followers. Beyond boasting about her wealth and connections to important people, the psychic also asserted that she held enough sway over the proverbial powers that be that she could "have others arrested."

As one might imagine, that last remark caught the attention of authorities, who promptly questioned Mother Raska about the rather audacious claim. Although it is uncertain what she offered for an explanation, it was apparently insufficient to the cops, as she was subsequently arrested and charged with an unspecified crime. Adding insult to injury, after detaining the psychic, Lieutenant General Chuon Narin of the Phnom Penh police mocked the mystic in the media by musing, "perhaps you were unable to foresee whether your own fortune would rise or fall today."
