Colorado Wildlife Officials & Witness Offer Insights on Viral 'Mystery Creature'

By Tim Binnall

In an update to the case of the weird 'mystery creature' seen in a viral video earlier this week, Colorado wildlife officials offered a theory on what it might be and the woman who captured the creepy critter with her camera provided unsettling new details about the oddity. The enigmatic animal, which was spotted in the city of Pueblo, sparked headlines and captured the imagination of people online after it was shared by TV station KKTV on Sunday evening (seen above). Among the possibilities put forward online were that the animal was a possum, a wolverine, or even maybe the infamous chupacabra.

Responding to an inquiry from another local media outlet, Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials indicated that they suspect the creature "might be a raccoon with mange." Their reasoning for that assessment, they explained, was the animal's size and, more specifically, how it was using its paws to eat. As one might imagine, the department is asking for the public to report any run-ins they might have with the mysterious creature. Meanwhile, the witness who filmed the now-viral video has come forward with new insights on her experience encountering the oddity.

Identified as Janay, she recalled seeing the creature lingering outside her home twice this month. As if its unsightly appearance was not unnerving enough, the woman recalled that the critter "was also hissing at me" when they crossed paths. Taken aback by the bizarre nature of the beast, the Pueblo resident ultimately filmed the animal in the hopes of identifying it. To that end, while the wildlife officials were fairly confident in their raccoon hypothesis, Janay expressed skepticism over that explanation, leaving the case unsettled to her and many others online who have their own pet theories about the Colorado creature.
