Football Fan's Misunderstood Anguish Prompts Report of Heart Attack to 911

A tense NFL playoff game over the weekend led to a rather amusing turn of events when a Wisconsin woman's niece misunderstood her anguished text and called 911 to report that her aunt was having a heart attack. The weird incident reportedly occurred this past Saturday night as the Green Bay Packers were facing off against the San Francisco 49ers. Over the course of the back-and-forth gridiron battle, the unnamed woman in the city of Madison was texting about the game with her niece in Missouri. When things took a particularly perilous turn for the Packers, the Green Bay fan wrote "I’m having a heart attack," which is when confusion struck.

Thinking that the woman was genuinely in danger, the niece promptly phoned 911 to report that her aunt was having a medical emergency. Recounting the odd call online, the city of Madison indicated that "when Engine 8 pulled up to the home, the person in question came out the front door smiling, shaking her head, waving her hands, and apologizing to the EMTs and paramedics." The Green Bay fan subsequently explained the situation and, one presumes, the emergency personnel had a good laugh over the misunderstanding. While the woman may not have suffered a heart attack, the city mused that she did experience "a broken heart" as the Packers ultimately lost to San Francisco in the final minute of the game.
