Geese Dragged Underwater by Mysterious Creature Lurking in British Lake

By Tim Binnall

In what sounds like the start of a horror film, a man in England is sounding the alarm after spotting three geese get dragged underwater by some kind of mysterious creature. According to a local media report, the weirdness began earlier this month when Wayne Owens was working on a boat on the sizeable British lake known as Ullswater. His normally routine day took a troubling turn when he noticed that a "full size" goose sitting on the water had suddenly begun "flapping furiously and it couldn't get away from whatever had it." The bewildered witness recalled that the bird was eventually pulled down beneath the surface of the lake and "it was not to be seen again," but that was only the beginning of his weird account.

The following day, Owens says, he and his skipper saw a pair of what seemed to be juvenile geese that suffered a similar mystifying fate. His colleague, who has worked on the lake for 36 years, conceded that he had never seen such a thing in all his time working at the site. While he has no idea what could have taken down the geese, Owens laments that two incidents left him "traumatized" to the point that he now refuses to go into the water at the lake. To his credit, following the frightening experience, he took to social media to warn the public about what he had seen. "Some people think I'm mad, but I have nothing to gain from this," he declared, "I want people to stay out of the water with their children and small dogs."

Owens also called upon local officials to post some kind of warning sign concerning the 'monster' lurking in the lake. However, his call to action appears to have fallen on deaf ears as the area authority that oversees the site issued a statement saying that "we are aware of the alleged incidents involving geese on Ullswater," but stressed that "our Lake Ranger team patrolled the area over the weekend and did not see anything out of the ordinary." As for what Owens could have seen taking down the geese, he theorizes that the 'monster' might be a crocodile or perhaps a particularly powerful catfish, though the nature of the 'monster' is likely to be a mystery unless it winds up surfacing again.
