A Georgia man found himself in trouble with the law following an ill-advised prank wherein he donned a 'Scream' mask and terrorized a family member who called 911 on the frightening character. The odd incident reportedly occurred on Saturday night when a homeowner in Columbia County phoned the police about a rather troubling situation unfolding at their house. According to the caller, an individual wearing a 'Scream' mask and wielding a knife had disconnected the lights to their home security system and was attempting to break into the residence.
Cops dispatched to the scene spotted the perpetrator upon their arrival. However, like the elusive villain from the horror film franchise that made his mask famous, the ne'er-do-well made a quick getaway by dashing off into some nearby woods. Opting to keep their distance because the suspect was armed, officers tracked him using a drone and ultimately caught up to the mysterious stranger as he was trying to flee the area in a car. When police got their hands on the would-be home invader, they unmasked an unnamed 22-year-old man who asserted that they had merely been pranking a family member.
Unfortunately for the mischief-maker, police found no humor in his attempted moment of jest and, rather than let him off with a warning, cited him with disorderly conduct and driving a car without insurance and registration. The incident in Georgia comes on the heels of a similar case in Virginia last week, in which three masked hooligans tried to break into a home while threatening the residents inside. One can only hope that the two events are not part of a larger trend of masked visitors terrorizing homeowners, since someone will inevitably get hurt should such shenanigans continue.
