Continuing what has been a banner year for Nessie sightings, a German tourist has been credited with the 14th officially recognized report of 2026 after he spotted a peculiar anomaly surface at the famed Scottish site. The remarkable moment reportedly occurred shortly before noon on August 21st when witness Felix Tiekemeier noticed something unusual out on the water. To the tourist's surprise, he saw what appeared to be an approximately 20-foot-long creature "swimming close to the surface and appeared to have a head."
After around 20 seconds, the anomaly dipped back into the water, leaving Tiekemeier understandably wondering if he had just seen Nessie. Fortunately, he had the wherewithal to snap a photo (seen here) during the amazing event. However, as is often the case with such images, the mystery creature in the image is rather hard to discern. That said, Tiekemeier's account has been recognized by the Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register as their 14th on-site case of the year.
For those keeping score at home, 2026's tally has now surpassed 2020, which had 13 total sightings and previously stood as this decade's high-water mark for recognized reports. Additionally, in what may be a new record, tourists from eight different countries (New Zealand, the United States, Canada, England, Australia, Malta, Spain, and Germany) have shared potential Nessie accounts this year alongside several Scottish residents who possibly spotted the famed 'monster.'
