A security camera at a medieval British castle snapped an eerie photo of what appears to be a ghost lingering outside the centuries-old structure. English Heritage, the organization responsible for overseeing a range of historic sites in the country, revealed the spooky image in a Halloween-themed post on its website. According to the group, the chilling picture of the seemingly faceless figure was taken by a motion-activated camera positioned to watch over the outside of Chester Castle, which was built in 1070. When alerted to the presence of unusual activity, the organization wrote, a security guard was dispatched to the area where the weird anomaly was seen. However, when he arrived at the spot, there was no one to be found.
"Perhaps most unsettling of all," English Heritage reported, was that "his usually fearless dog refused to enter" the location. It would appear that the incident at Chester Castle is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to haunted happenings at the sites overseen by the group. To that end, it explained that when staff members from the various "castles, abbeys and historic houses across the country" were recently asked if they had ever seen "something they couldn't explain," nearly half of the people responded in the affirmative, sharing a bevy of previously unheard ghost stories and unsettling experiences, including shadow figure sightings, disembodied voices, and even one instance wherein a visitor "felt a gentle hand rub the back of his head."
