Ghost Prank Leads to Shooting Death in Mexico

By Tim Binnall

A woman in Mexico was tragically killed after she dressed up as a ghost to scare her neighbors and wound up being shot dead by one particularly frightened person. The unfortunate incident reportedly occurred last Friday evening in the municipality of Naucalpan de Juarez, where the unnamed victim made the ill-advised decision to roam the streets pretending to be the infamous folkloric spirit known as 'La Llorona.' Clad in a white gown and veil, the young woman walked throughout her neighborhood wailing over her lost children, as legend states the iconic 'weeping ghost' is said to do.

Alas, it would appear that her impersonation of La Llorona was all too realistic for one terrified resident, who promptly opened fire on the 'ghost' and wound up shooting the woman multiple times. The misguided prankster ultimately died from the violent encounter and police have launched an investigation into the incident as the shooter is said to have fled the scene after 'fending off the spirit.' While the tale of La Llorona is often used to dissuade children from going out at night, the shooting death should also serve as a cautionary tale for any would-be pranksters this Halloween season.
