'Gozo Ghost House' Case Discussed in Maltese Parliament

By Tim Binnall

Suggesting that there may not be all that much going on in Malta these days, the curious case of a purported ghost attack at a home on the island of Gozo became the subject of an inquiry in the country's parliament. Lawmaker Beppe Galea, who represents the region where the incident occurred, reportedly raised the issue during a committee meeting on Tuesday. Recounting the strange story, which has revealed last week and subsequently spawned multiple headlines in the Maltese media, he posed a series of interesting follow-up questions to the country's Home Affairs Minister, Glenn Bedingfield, and got a rather odd response.

Galea specifically asked if police returned to the residence where the haunting allegedly happened after their initial visit that fateful evening in late September. The lawmaker also inquired about the investigation itself, including if there were witness statements or evidence collected during the officer's visit to the home. Despite seemingly asking sincere questions about the curious incident that has captivated many in the country, Galea received what has been described as a "tongue-in-cheek" response from Bedingfield, who issued a written reply that simply said, "the requested information has disappeared!" Time will tell if the Home Affairs Minister's dismissal of the inquiry is the end of the increasingly odd Gozo Ghost House case or if there is more to the story still to unfold.
