Millions of Brazilians had a 'War of the Worlds' moment over the weekend after the country's national emergency alert system sent them a message about an unfolding alien invasion. The bizarre incident reportedly occurred early Saturday morning at around 1:30 AM, when residents in several states were roused from their sleep as their phones unexpectedly lit up with a rather troubling text. The message, emanating from the country's official emergency alert system meant to warn of weather-related concerns, was labeled 'extreme' and ominously declared, "Protect yourself: alien attack. Humans, we have arrived."
Fortunately, because the message was sent when most recipients were asleep, the unsettling announcement of an aggressive alien arrival largely sparked bewilderment rather than panic, especially since there were no signs of any UFOs on the attack. The following day, it was revealed that hackers had somehow gained access to the system and sent several strange messages, including the extraterrestrial missive that mystified millions. Though the public mostly made light of the situation online, authorities were less amused, stressing that the security breach exposed vulnerabilities in the system that need to be addressed immediately before any further shenanigans occur.
