Haunted Real Estate Survey Produces Enlightening Results

By Tim Binnall

A new survey which asked people what it would take for them to buy a haunted house has produced some rather enlightening results. Conducted at the behest of the website realtor.com, the 'Haunted Real Estate Report' gathered opinions from 1,067 people throughout America.

Presented with the scenario that their prospective new home was haunted, 33 percent of the respondents said that they would only make the purchase if the price were reduced or if the home had something enticing, like a large kitchen or a nice neighborhood, which would outweigh the potential paranormal activity. Another 18 percent said that they would buy the house regardless of whether or not it was haunted, while a whopping 49% revealed that nothing could persuade them to do so if they found out that spirits may reside in the home.

To that end, the survey also turned the question around and asked people what they would do if they were trying to sell a haunted house. In response, 34% indicated that they would reveal the full extent of the paranormal activity in the home, while 27 percent put the onus on the buyer, saying that they'd keep the haunted nature of the house a secret unless specifically asked.

Similarly, 22% said that they would keep quiet about the ghosts in the home regardless of whether or not someone inquired. And, finally, 17 percent of the people claimed that they would disclose that the house is haunted, but not share any details as to how they know such a thing, which may be the most maddening of all options, since the new owners would likely be left to wonder if any odd sounds or weird events were due to a restless spirit.

Would you buy a haunted house? And, perhaps more importantly, if you were selling a haunted house, would you tell anyone about its resident ghosts? Weigh in with your take at the Coast to Coast AM Facebook page.
