Iceland Says 'Send Us Your Screams'

By Tim Binnall

An Icelandic tourism group has devised a clever ad campaign that encourages people frustrated by the coronavirus pandemic to send them recordings of their screams which will then be broadcast throughout the picturesque country. The inventive idea is the brainchild of the organization Promote Iceland. Announcing the initiative on social media, they acknowledged the difficult times many people are experiencing and wrote "looks like you've been through a lot. It looks like you need to let it out. It looks like you need Iceland."

Those wishing to let off some steam by way of a scream can record their best plaintive wail at the website lookslikeyouneediceland.com. The group will then play the audio at one of several speakers which have been strategically placed in various "beautiful, wide-open spaces" across the country. The website also features a showcase of various screams which have been collected so far as well as tips for conjuring one's best caterwaul.

As you may have surmised by now, the organization hopes that participants will someday follow their scream, so to speak, and visit the country once people begin traveling once again. The proverbial scream therapy is not the first odd coronavirus-inspired idea to emerge out of Iceland since the pandemic began as, back in April, the country's Forestry Service suggested that individuals feeling lonely due to social distancing could combat those feelings by hugging trees.
