In Coast You Missed It 8/5/22

The Watergate break-in, the afterlife, and Yorkshire lore were among the fascinating topics covered this past week on Coast to Coast AM. And, here at the C2C website, we told you about a possible Bigfoot photo from a farm in Tennessee, a mysterious sphere that landed in Mexico, and a massive sinkhole that appeared in Chile's Atacama Desert. Check out our round-up of highlights from the past week ... In Coast You Missed It.

Why do some spirits choose to remain earthbound rather than cross over to the other side? This intriguing question was explored on Monday night's program as psychic Echo Bodine imparted insights into the matter as gleaned from her conversations with those reluctant individuals who reside in the ghostly realm. She explained that these spirits often say that they do not wish to reunite with certain already-departed family members in the afterlife, while teenagers who have recently passed tell her that they prefer the liveliness of the physical realm rather than what they suspect is a boring existence in heaven. To that end, Bodine said that the most common reason spirits 'stay behind' is that they fear whatever judgement may befall them on the other side.

The legendary Bigfoot left an appropriately oversized mark on the news cycle this week by way of two intriguing stories featuring possible evidence for the famed creature's existence. First, a farmer in Tennessee produced a photograph of a peculiar anomaly somewhat resembling a thin figure lingering behind a fence on his property. Coupled with what he claimed were recent Sasquatch reports in the area, the man wondered if the weird 'being' might be Bigfoot. Meanwhile, a woman in Tennessee managed to record a series of eerie howls that emanated from some kind of creature lurking near her home and some have suggested that the strange sounds were Sasquatch calls.

The history of high strangeness associated with England's Yorkshire county was explored on Saturday night's program as author Charles Christian shared some of the truly fantastical tales connected to the area. He detailed how a sizeable meteorite struck the location in 1790, which spawned a series of strange events and served as the basis for several superhero stories. Christian also talked about longstanding legends of a werewolf that stalks its prey in the hills of Yorkshire, a dragon that is said to live in one of the county's lakes, and the cursed skull of a servant woman that purportedly screams and unleashes chaos if it is ever disturbed.

This past week saw a particularly bizarre mystery emerge in Mexico, where a prominent meteorologist took to social media to report that a puzzling metallic sphere had plummeted from the sky and landed in the city of Veracruz. Isidro Cano Luna theorized that the object could have been debris from a Chinese rocket and implored the Mexican government to seize the odd ball before some foolhardy individual tried to do so themselves and wound up getting hurt. The weatherman later told his followers that the orb was spirited away by a team of specialists and that the tale of the weird sphere would likely be covered up for national security reasons.

The infamous Watergate scandal was revisited by investigative journalist Jefferson Morley on Sunday night's program as he detailed how the break-in was actually a joint venture involving both the White House and the CIA. Noting that Nixon and then-CIA director Richard Helms had collaborated on a number of nefarious plots during the 1950s and 60s, he observed that the burglars enlisted on the fateful evening were, in fact, retired members of the intelligence agency. However, the botched nature of the break-in, Morley explained, ultimately led to a showdown between Nixon and Helms, which saw the CIA director fired and dispatched to Iran as an ambassador.

Work at a mining operation in Chile was brought to a standstill this past week when an enormous sinkhole suddenly appeared overnight. The massive chasm measures a jaw-dropping 150 feet in diameter and a depth of 299 feet. Chilean authorities quickly dispatched a team of experts to investigate the sinkhole which has found to be stable, thankfully, but what created the monstrous depression remains a mystery. Fortunately, the hole formed a fair distance away from the closest town, Tierra Amarilla, so it would seem that no one was directly impacted by the event, save for the mining company which has shut down operations while the Chilean government tries to determine the cause of the chasm.
