Indian Paranormal Vloggers Irritate Neighborhood, Spark Brawl Over Phony Haunted House Claims

By Tim Binnall

Two people in India were left injured when a brawl erupted between paranormal vloggers and residents of a neighborhood fed up with videos about a purportedly haunted house in the community. According to a local media report, the curious case started earlier this month when content creators on social media learned of a home in the village of Sanpur where a family of seven was mysteriously slain back in 1999. The story of the still-unsolved massacre captured the imagination of Indian vloggers, who twisted the tale into something supernatural by asserting that the now-empty residence had been abandoned due to paranormal activity.

Much to the chagrin of people in Sanpur, the dark account of the 'haunted' house spread like wildfire on Indian social media, prompting thrill-seekers and would-be online stars to flock to the residence. The situation has been particularly infuriating to residents as, despite its dark history, there has never been any paranormal activity associated with the abandoned home in the nearly thirty years since the massacre occurred. The situation seemingly came to a head last Thursday when a trio of vloggers broke into the house to film a video and wound up being confronted by something far more frightening than the spirits of the slain family: a mob of angry villagers.

What began as an exchange of harsh words soon turned into a physical altercation that resulted in a resident needing hospitalization for his injuries, and one of the content creators also being badly bludgeoned. Authorities are now investigating the matter, and the individuals behind the videos promulgating the tale of the 'haunted' house in Sanpur could wind up facing charges for inciting panic. At the very least, one imagines that the incident will dissuade paranormal vloggers from visiting the village, lest they wind up being chased out of town by irritated residents tired of the town's fifteen minutes of internet fame.
