The latest potential Nessie sighting for the year features a photo of an intriguing and rather sizeable shadow spotted lurking beneath the surface of the water. The tantalizing image (seen here) was reportedly snapped on the morning of July 27th by John and Jamie Wallace during a visit to the famed site from their home in Renfrewshire, Scotland. According to the pair, there was nothing in the sky over the location of the anomaly that could account for the strange shadow seen in the photo.
The Wallaces' account has been recognized by the Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register as the 11th sighting of 2026. The year's tally increased by two this past week as a second report was also added to the list. That sighting actually occurred on the afternoon of January 12th when the Gott family of New Zealand "spotted a black head followed by a long tail near the Clansman Hotel." Should the question come up at your next pub trivia night, the bit of cryptozoological bookkeeping is significant in that the account displaces American tourist Tony Inhorn's March 1st case that had previously been credited as the first Nessie sighting of the year.
