Loch Ness Monster Spotted by American Tourist?

By Tim Binnall

An American vacationing at Loch Ness spotted an unusual anomaly that may have been the site's resident 'monster.' The possible Nessie sighting, which came to light over the weekend, reportedly occurred on the morning of April 21st as Sara Gubicza and her husband were visiting the iconic Scottish tourist destination from their home in the United States. Their trip took a wondrous turn when, while riding a bus along the shore of Loch Ness, she gazed out the window and noticed what appeared to be a sizeable fin sticking out of the water.

"It seemed to be right in the middle of the loch," she recalled, "it wasn't close to any shoreline." Unable to estimate how fast the fin might have been moving because of her perspective from the bus, which was traveling in the opposite direction, Gubicza described the anomaly as being an approximately 18-inch triangle that was "whitish gray." While the oddity she observed emerging from the water does not resemble the classic depiction of the legendary cryptid, her account was compelling enough that the Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register added it to their 2026 tally, which is now at four on-site reports for the year.

Beyond the sighting itself, what is particularly interesting about Gubicza's possible glimpse of Nessie on April 21st is that, in the days that followed, there were two additional sightings that received recognition from the long-running monster-tracking website. Why Nessie may have emerged on three separate occasions over the course of one week last month is anyone's guess, though hopefully it is a harbinger of good things to come with tourist season only just beginning and the annual Quest search coming up in a couple of weeks.
