The leader of a Mexican motorcycle club drew condemnation from a community after he spray-painted the name of his group on a beloved UFO monument. Located in the city of Atlixco, the sizeable flying saucer was reportedly created out of a disused water tank in 2001 to commemorate a 1992 series of sightings that captivated the area. The target of vandals and other troublemakers over the years, the monument was recently refurbished by local officials and community members. Alas, the proverbial fresh coat of paint on the popular tourist attraction did not last very long due to a motorcycle club's misguided decision to leave its mark at the site.
According to a local media report, the brazen act of vandalism (seen below) occurred this past weekend when the group Inseparables Bikers Puebla organized a ride to the Monumento El Ovni in Atlixco. At the conclusion of their visit, the group's leader, who boasts the less-than-menacing moniker El Picachu, spray-painted the club's name on the flying saucer. When the tagging was later discovered, outrage swept throughout the local community and on social media where pictures of the defaced UFO spread far and wide. Fortunately, El Picachu foolishly included his nickname with the graffiti, which led to the vandal being identified by a rival motorcycle club.
Confronted about his actions, the remorseful young man has promised to remove the tag this coming weekend. In a testament to the vitriol surrounding his actions, El Picachu indicated that members of his group would be joining him during the clean-up out of fear that he could be met with violence should he visit the UFO alone. Meanwhile, authorities may press charges over the matter, though one imagines all will be forgiven if the motorcycle club can restore the flying saucer to its former glory.
