An Indian man who killed his friend turned himself in to the police because, he told the cops, the victim kept visiting him in his dreams. According to a local media report, the murder occurred last month in the city of Dombivli as Prabhu Karkade and Vishal Kadam were enjoying some drinks at the home of a mutual acquaintance, Sandesh Mhatre, who was not present at the time. At some point during the evening, things took an acrimonious turn when an argument suddenly erupted between the two best friends. Although the nature of the dispute is uncertain, the fight was serious enough that things quickly turned physical and, ultimately, deadly.
The brawl came to a gruesome conclusion when Karkade killed Kadam and subsequently hid his remains in the bathroom. Amazingly, when Mhatre returned the following day and was told about the dead body in his home, he foolishly opted to help dump the corpse near a creek rather than call the cops and risk being arrested, despite seemingly having nothing to do with the murder. For the next 20 days, Karkade later recounted to police, the killer attempted to get on with his life, but found it impossible because Kadam kept appearing in his dreams, which one imagines were more akin to nightmares.
Whether his sleepless nights were due to guilt or a genuine visitation from the spirit of his best friend seemed to be of little consequence to the killer, as he simply could no longer endure them and decided to confess to the crime. After revealing his actions to authorities, Karkade was arrested for Kadam's murder, and Mhatre was also taken into custody for his ill-advised effort to cover up the killing. The case is remarkably similar to another incident that occurred in India earlier this year wherein the perpetrator confessed to police because, he claimed, the victim's ghost had been tormenting him.
