Mysterious Disc Pulled from River in Ohio

By Tim Binnall

Workers participating in an annual clean-up project at a river in Ohio were left scratching their heads when they pulled a puzzling disc-shaped object from the water. According to a local media report, the curious piece of metal was found in the Olentangy River in the city of Delaware late last month and weighs a whopping 880 pounds. It's considerable heft made it impossible to remove the object by hand, so a backhoe was enlisted to hoist the saucer-like oddity from the murky depths.

While the shape of the object and the manner in which it was found may conjure thoughts of a UFO crash retrieval, the City of Delaware Public Utilities announced that they have ruled out any extraterrestrial origin for the weird disc. Meanwhile, the city jokingly speculated on Twitter that perhaps it was a lost Apollo capsule that "overshot the ocean and splashed down in our Olentangy River." In a testament to the detective work of social media users, it was ultimately determined that the object was a piece of equipment from a nearby waterpark that had somehow "broke free, floated away and sank."
