Mystery Creature Still Menacing Brazilian State

By Tim Binnall

The case of a mystery creature slaying farm animals throughout a Brazilian state continues to concern residents following two additional grisly attacks by the unknown predator believed by some to be the infamous chupacabra. The unsettling series of killings, which began back in February, came to light earlier this month when fed-up ranchers in Alagoas sounded the alarm about the worrisome situation. At the time, the mystery creature was blamed for downing dozens of sheep, pigs, goats, and even rabbits over at least nine attacks in just a few weeks. Alas, to the dismay of people in the region, the ravenous beast has since added two additional incidents and several more animals to its troubling tally.

The penultimate attack, to date, reportedly occurred on Friday, April 17th, near the city of Igaci. In this instance, the mystery creature took down a total of 10 animals, including sheep and geese. Once again showing something of an indiscriminate appetite, the latter victims were new additions to the proverbial monster's menu. The most recent attack by the predator unfolded this past Tuesday in Agrestina, where the beast killed six sheep. As with previous cases, peculiar puncture wounds in the necks and heads of its victims, as well as the unfortunate animals being drained of their blood, have fueled fears that the perpetrator is far from a prosaic predator.

Specifically, many in the region speculate that the beast behind the path of destruction being cut through Alagoas is the infamous chupacabra. As one might imagine, skeptical individuals dismiss that fantastic suggestion and, instead, argue that packs of dogs are behind the attacks. One imagines that, after more than two months of mysterious animal slayings throughout the state, people living in the area are less concerned with what is behind the killings and now simply hope that they will come to a stop at some point soon.
