Mystery Stone Thrower Menaces Brazilian Community

By Tim Binnall

Residents of a community in Brazil are on edge following a series of strange incidents in which their homes were pelted with stones by an unseen force that some suspect could be a poltergeist! The weirdness reportedly first began late last month in a neighborhood in the Brazilian city of Joacaba, when a number of people reported that someone or something had thrown rocks at their houses. Frighteningly, these were not mere pebbles that were plinking upon their roof, but rather sizeable stones which were big enough to create holes atop the homes.

Following the first evening in which the stoning occurred, police officers were stationed on the scene to see if they could get to the bottom of who or what was throwing the rocks. However, this only compounded the mystery as officers witnessed the event taking place, but could find no culprit. "When the policeman got out of the car, stones came in. They came to the houses and every time they got closer, more stones came in," said one bewildered resident, "the policemen even threw it in the dark, but the stones did not stop."

What has baffled both residents and authorities is that the rocks are of such size that, in order for them to hit the homes, they'd have to have been thrown from a location where the perpetrator would be clearly seen. Additionally, the stones do not seem to be coming from one specific spot and, instead, appear to be flung from a number of different directions "as if the houses were surrounded." As one might suspect, these eerie elements to the case have conjured concerns among people living in the area that there may be a supernatural source for the commotion.

Although not everyone is ready to get on board with the possibility that the stones are coming from a poltergeist, despite the sinister spirit often being associated with just such a phenomenon, a general feeling of fear is widespread throughout the community. "I can not go outside to work. Before, the children played in the street, now they can not do it anymore," lamented one resident who also conceded, "I'm not going to lie, I'm scared."
