A UK man who made headlines with his serendipitous footage of something strange swimming in Loch Ness now believes his film merely captured eels.
Gordon Holmes created a buzz in cryptozoological circles with his remarkable 2007 video of a fast-moving, dark object seemingly swimming in Loch Ness.
And while the enigmatic footage was hailed by some as the latest film starring Nessie, Holmes remained mystified by what he saw.
However thanks to the analysis of computer expert Bill Appleton, he has come to the conclusion that the creatures in the film were eels.
"Since eels do appear strange, ancient, scary-like beasties, that may explain several of the Loch Ness sightings over the centuries," Holmes told the Scotsman.
Of course, this is not the first time eels have been suggested as the main suspect for Nessie.
Coast Insiders may recall that author Steve Alten has been championing the eel theory on the program for over a decade.
Despite increasing evidence that Nessie may very well be a creature 'spawned' from eel sightings in Loch Ness, it's likely that the classic concept of Nessie as the last remaining plesiosaur will never truly vanish.
