Pair of Women Busted for Allegedly Attempting to Deliver Contraband to Prison Using Faux Crows

By Tim Binnall

Louisiana authorities arrested a pair of women for allegedly attempting to smuggle contraband into a federal prison using faux crows dropped by a drone. The audacious scheme came to light on Monday with an announcement from the Grant Parish Sheriff's Office. In detailing the case, they explained that Melanie Jean Worthington and Kassy Marie Cole had been busted trying to sneak "drugs, cell phones, and tobacco" onto the grounds of a federal prison located in the county "by using a drone to fly in plastic crow decoys that were filled with the contraband."

Unfortunately for the enterprising pair, the prison intercepted the phony birds, and a subsequent investigation led authorities to Worthington and Cole. Upon being questioned, the duo admitted to their role in the faux crow scheme and asserted that they had been paid $40,000 for their part in the clever, but misguided, smuggling attempt. "I will admit that it’s pretty creative," Grant Parish Sheriff Steven McCain later conceded to a local media outlet, before stressing that the plan "didn't work" and that it ultimately landed the pair behind bars themselves.
