Perseverance Rover Finds 'Donut' On Mars

By Tim Binnall

NASA's Mars Perseverance rover stumbled upon a tasty-looking feature on the surface of the Red Planet in the form of a rock formation that bears an uncanny resemblance to a donut. The weird sight was photographed by the exploratory vehicle this past Friday and subsequently showcased in a tweet from the SETI Institute on Monday. Explaining that the image was captured using the rover's "SuperCam Remote Micro-Imager," they indicated that the rock "could be a large meteorite alongside smaller pieces." That said, some imaginative observers have suggested that perhaps the circular formation is the remnants of a well once used by an ancient Martian civilization, though we can understand why SETI might not be on board with that explanation.
