'Phantom Knocker' Flummoxes New Zealand Cops

Cops in a New Zealand community were left scratching their heads after receiving multiple calls about an eerie 'phantom knocker' frightening residents. According to a local media report, the curious case began on Tuesday evening in the city of Dunedin when a woman staying at a motel phoned police about an unsettling incident that had just occurred. Hearing an inexplicable knock at her ground-floor window, the caller explained, she looked outside and spotted a stranger crouching near the ground. Understandably unnerved by the visitor, she unleashed a scream that sent the creepy individual running. Officers dispatched to the motel subsequently searched the area and found no sign of the phantom, who was seemingly only getting started that evening.

Around ten minutes after the motel incident, Dunedin police received another call from a homeowner with an equally troubling report. According to the resident, they were startled by the sound of knocking inside their house. Upon going to investigate the situation, the homeowner spotted a pair of "shadowy figures" running away from the open back door of the residence. Once again, cops searched the neighborhood, but the phantoms were long gone. The weirdness continued later that evening when a worker at a vape shop phoned police about a similarly strange incident.

In this instance, the store received an unexpected knock at its door, followed by a loud bang as the employee went to answer it. Once again, when the worker looked for who or what could have been behind the mysterious moment, there was no one to be found. The proverbial cat and mouse game ended there as police received no further reports of the phantom knockers, who one hopes were merely bored teenagers pranking people rather than individuals with something more nefarious in mind.
